Irish, Catholic, atheist.
That's how I described myself when I got sober. And had to work through that to where I now describe myself as a "deist". I do believe in a Higher Power, don't know what it is, but do know it isn't me. And it's not Jesus nor is it described in the Bible, or Koran.
One of my initial problems with Roman Catholicism was the description of Communion.
"This is the body of Christ, this is the blood of Christ."
Yuck!!! Who would encourage that kind of cannibalism and why? The really scary part is how long it took to revulse me, how long I just took it for granted.
One bad rap the Catholics get is guilt. People forget that there is a provision for forgiveness, too.
