For an immortal, the "this too shall pass" attitude would definitely have to be accompanied by a serious network of survival strategies. Otherwise instead of passing, it might run over you. Prime Directive for any immortal of course is to never let anyone find out about it. Maybe there have been a few natural mutations in this direction over the millenia. All our legends have heroes with immensely long lives. Maybe a few thousand years ago they figured out that the trick was lying low and changing identities a lot.
