The box suggested changing the thing every 12,000 miles, but who pays attention to that?
The fuel filters with which I'm familiar went in-line under the hood near the carb. They were fairly small, and it was simple. In my dotage I'm kind of a nut about maintaining the car, change the oil every 3,000 miles, that sort of thing. It's so expensive to get things repaired anymore that it just seems simpler to keep them going.
This filter is about three inches long and 2 1/2 inches in diameter, the size of a chopped olive or 4oz mushroom can. Much bigger than they used to be. Might be why they last, as even the small ones didn't plug completely very often.
I just remember them going out at the damnedest times.
