Something to think about for the future

In addition to this close call by a planetoid, note that one of
the orbiters took an image of a rather fresh meteorite crater
about one year ago, and that the rovers have found actual
meteorites in the relatively small ranges of Mars they have
explored.

Being closer to the Planetoid Belt, meteorite impacts are going
to be a serious problem for colonists. Perhaps their buildings
will have to be underground, or at least heavily shielded.

Is there any data on the amount of meteoroid impacts on
the planet?
