Well noo I'm fair flummoxed
Tried looking it up. Failed.
There are two schools of thought on the web.
Most popular is that giftie is just an amalgam of "gift to" that some Power (God) gives us.
Less common, and my understanding, is that the Power was the ability to see ourselves, and the Giftie was God, who gave us the Gift of Life.
