I'm reading this book by Baudry, Soloviev and former astronaut Joe Allen...
He's commenting on the future of space:
Noticing the sad state of america's policies for the last 6 years, my hope in a new impulse in the exploration of space has passed from a prudent optimism to a rather bitter pessimism. There are too many urgents things to do on Earth to get involved in an ambitious space program. And it will remain so for the next decades. The next 50 years of space progression will come from China (if).
He also says the space station isn't useful.
