But from my point of view, much of the "hyperpartisanship" from recent years has been firmly from left field. Sure Bush has supplied some of the ammunition, but much of it is over the top hysterics (starving old people, throwing children out of school, etc) coming from the fringes of your own party.

I would be very happy to see a Democratic party with people like Chris Dodd, Sam Nun, Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson, and others in the leadership as opposed to the far lefties currently in control of the party. Pelosi, Schumer, Clinton, Kennedy, Kerry, Gore, and others scare me even more than Bush scares you. He's only one man, but they are legion.
