Why?
It was never "big news" when over a hundred thousand, or two hundred thousand new jobs were added in a month. 82,000 new jobs in December for example. Over four years--52 months--of uninterrupted positive job numbers. Did that ever make news? Clinton's record was 51 months. The record streak from Reagan/Bush was 54.
Now 17,000 jobs down is "slashed," and it's all we're going to hear about for days. For all we know, this number will be revised to positive territory next month like the last one was.
