What really ticks me off about this paranoia about minor leaks

is that it distracts us from the real problem: the thousands of tons of spent fuel elements loaded with unimaginably lethal fission products slowly deteriorating in unsecured ponds all over the country, and with the necessary infrastructure to safely neutralize them decades and billion$ behind schedule.

I just thought I'd bring that up while we're bashing Greens here and congratulating ourselves about how silly they are.. Maybe the environmental activists gave up a long time ago on trying to get the industry to reform itself, and now they've decided the only solution is to just shut it down.

I don't agree with that assessment, I'm pro-nuke myself, but until the nuclear waste issue is resolved completely we're better off without the damned things. In fact, if every nuclear plant in the country was shut down tomorrow, we'd still have a terribly expensive and incredibly dangerous clean-up job on our hands.

It is a nightmare in the making, one that we will one day wake up to screaming.
