tough chance =)
It's the little things that drive me crazy as well. I found it helpfull at times to bring the matter up with someone non technical and I would pay attention to their obvious questions. Sometimes, without knowing it, they touch the issue spot on, just because they don't know any better... in your case a simple question like... "what did you say it's called? a Gate what?" would have made me think of a different way to explain a gateway to a non technical person and I would have been tempted to use "router" instead... bingo?
Fact is that Microsoft is surrounded by many non technical people, believe it or not, and their testing teams suck. As they are trying to make their products more and more user friendly, they fall into the 5th postulate of Murphy's law: You make something user friendly so that even stupid users can use it, only stupid users will use your product.
Leaving people with a little more know-how dead in the water ;)
