Where I work, an east Indian archivist works
in a vault with twenty to thirty year-old mainframe
computers using the old-fashioned heavey, large
magnetic-tape reels that contain only 300 KB
of stored data each.
I mean he's working with archaic hardware
and software.
The company is lucky to have him.
Some science agencies aren't as lucky,
and priceless archived data ends up useless
because there's no one, and no hardware, available anymore to
analyze the archaic data.
