There is a large number of people who are not interested in acquiring and consuming more than they need, who have interests beyond their own possessions and bank accounts, who are not killing themselves trying to stay ahead of the Joneses. People who recognize that capital has a big place at the table, as does labor. That not only money but people count.
People who would like to see other people have health insurance, even if they had to contribute. People who see this planet as the "homeland" and who recognize that the nation with the biggest guns is probably the biggest bully and not to be trusted. Who else wants such an arsenal but a bully.
None of these people, we shall described as having an enlightened self-interest, are Republicans, I'll grant. But there are a lot of other people left who aren't obsessed by greed.
Take my word for it.
