Space/Science » in reply to YB-49 Flight manual

Looks interesting. An aside.

The cover is printed "RESTRICTED". As an 18 y/o kid (17, actually) I received a stack of material from the military. What every basic student got.

Everything, including the "Manual of Arms" was marked at least "RESTRICTED". Most stuff was stamped "CONFIDENTIAL".

Now the "Manual of Arms", sometimes "Manual at Arms", has been around as long as there have been rifles, several hundred years at that point. There is nothing you can't see in any parade, graduation ceremony, arrival of dignitaries, military funeral, that sort of thing. Certainly impressive to watch, there is no practical use for it since armies don't march in ever-changing formations into battle and then fire on command.

But it was classified "RESTRICTED".

It's interesting that flight manual is marked "RESTRICTED". Must be to make it look more impressive. I don't believe that's a classification used in the US any more and I'm positive when the manual was more current it was classified much higher than that.

Great discovery. Thanks for the post.
