With all the Clinton experience in investigating and smearing folks, second only to Karl Rove and George Bush who completely create smears ("Swift Boat"), this is the best they can do. At least so far.

When I saw that re Clinton I couldn't help but think this is about over. It's not, of course, and will get dirtier, but as you say it's just dirt without substance.

Bush made it work, though. She could start creating "independent" committees of concerned Pakistanis who knew Obama in Afghanistan where he was taking vacations fighting with al-Qaeda, another committee of distressed mothers who swear he molested their children and couldn't in good conscience keep it secret any more, and a third of disgusted workmen who built a shrine to Satan in his basement, complete with altar for live sacrifices. (Followed later by invoices showing live dogs, cats and sheep had been delivered to the house.)

Hillary, of course, would deny any involvement, saying that while she had heard rumors she was not going to mention them but she couldn't be expected to control what Pakistanis said, what grieving mothers felt they had to do or what civic-minded construction workers might say.

And besides, if it were true, would that person be a good president? If only 10% were true? Where did those dogs and cats go?

Then she'd have a chance. But going halfway ain't gonna work.
