Zorba the Greek
I believe Zorba the Greek said that life is choices and each choice has it's joys, and price, that for each woman a man loves there are twenty who go unloved (by him).
The decision to marry carries a price, as does the one to remain single. Same with children, and as you've noted, moving around rather than staying in one place.
I believe it's as natural to accept and rejoice in the choices one has made as it is occasionally to mourn the losses those choices have inevitably created. And if one can enjoy the moment, the choices are irrelevant. "Never look back" is a mantra for some successful people and I would include sideways in that, too.
Yours was a well written piece. I enjoyed it.
