re: Only if you planted it.

You might have noticed that when the lumber industry greatly improved their sustainable practices, suddenly the environmental idea developed that there are "good" forests and "bad" forests. "Good" forests are those that have never been touched by an axe. "Bad" forests are second and third generation trees.

The second generation forests breathe, they grow, they shelter the deer and wildlife. They keep the erosion down. They're cool and green to walk through.

But they're not the RIGHT KIND of forest any more. They've been contaminated by Man. This also allows them to overlook the fact that there's more trees now in America than ever. They're not the RIGHT KIND of trees.

A cynic might almost think it was never really about the trees in the first place.

If you want to talk about the huge number of U.S. forests owned or controlled by the State and the rapacious results of trees being sold off for far, far less than any private owner would ever sell them, then I guess we're back to another old theme again.
