New Space Capsules on the Horizon...ATV, Cygnus and Dragon

Starting with France's, ATV, Cygnus and Dragon possibly to follow.

The European Space Agency (ESA) plans to launch the first Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) resupply ship from French Guyana to the International Space Station (ISS) on March 8... Once operational, it will be the Rolls Royce of space delivery vans. An ESA press release describes it as “a multi-functional spacecraft, combining the fully automatic capabilities of an unmanned vehicle with the safety requirements of a crewed vehicle.”

ATV will deliver 7.5 tons of cargo to the ISS, provide reboost capability to help keep the station in its proper orbit, and at the end of its mission will burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere with 6.5 tons of garbage and waste on board.
