I know this was discussed before, but I chose not to partake because I hadn't seen the movie yet.
Last night we finally rented it.
There where some of you that where not content with the ending of the movie and I would like to understand why. I actually think this was a brilliant script and unlike any other. I think we are all used to the tipical cliche, we expect the good guys to win, the bad guys to lose and the main character to survive the most unthinkable situations.
But here is what mkes this movie great: who do you really think the main character was? I'll give you a hint. this character was not potrayed by an actor/actress who could win the oscar, or receive a nomination.
That's right. The Country was the main character. The Story was the Supporting Role. The actors? They where part of the Story and helped to highlight the wind of change of the Country.

************ SPOILER ALERT BELOW THIS LINE ******************
There is no end to the Country, there is no end to the story. The 80s where a ever changing period of American culture. The dynamics always shifted and could never be cut and dry as it used to be. So was the movie. Jsut the way the movie was shot is a tell to the shifting dynamics. At the beginning the movie is sort of slow, very cut and dry. By the end, tehre is alot more action, but we are taken away from it as if the action is faster than us. As if our style can no longer compete with the quickness of the new dynamics.
The story was not about a drug deal gone bad. The story was not about how crazy one guy was.
The story had all to do on how time moves on relentlessly and without any breaks to determine if one thing is good or bad. Just like the killer. he never stopped, he always moved forward and did not let any good or bad things stop him. This story was also about the shift in the dynamics explained above and the how inadequate the old methods are. In fact, the movie starts with the NEW moving in to town and ends with the OLD "moving out".
No country for old men * Spoiler alert*
