This is one of the best articles I've read on this subject, and even informative. Disclaimer: I'd never even heard of "Starcraft," and I didn't know there was a "Doom" movie, so I suppose I'm not the geek I should be.

I heartily agree with many of his points, particularly the Great Green Screen scourge, and his opinion of the third Alien movie.

A note on Star Wars sequels: Within a couple of years after the original Star Wars Trilogy, the bookstores were clogged with licensed "sequels" to the series. Comic books picked up the storyline, too. All started cleaving to a reasonably-consistent "history," with Lucas approval as far as I know. At this point, there's an entire multi-generational canon with thousands of characters, the descendants of Luke, Han, and Leia, Chewbacca dead, and who knows what-all. I've read a microscopic fraction of these.

Unless Lucas had started in on the fourth movie instantly, he would have been outflanked.
