Was it worth it? That is a tough question. For the Iraqis, it is. And for the future I think it will be. Time will tell. If the Middle East joins the rest of the free world, and the environment that breads terrorist is gone, then yes, it was worth it. But it could take years to see that.
I have no doubt that Saddam would have continued his nuclear enrichment programs as soon as he could. Not only did one of his nuclear scientists, Dr. Mahdi Obeidi, admitted this, and not only did have we found 2 tons of low-enriched uranium, but Saddam’s history of trying to develop nuclear weapons convinces me of this.
But was it worth it for America? I am not so sure. Sure, we could argue that our professional solders are killing Al Qaeda over there instead of on our soil, but having our solders guarding our own borders would secure us not only against Al Qaeda, but also against any other Illegals coming across our borders.
If Saddam was still in power, yes he would still be killing thousands of his people. And sure his sons would also be raping, torturing and shredding helpless Iraqis. And sure Saddam would be a threat to his neighbors. But would America be threatened. Probably not. Sure, if Saddam had a chance, he might give a terrorist a nuke to sneak into America and set it off in New York, but the odds of that are low. If our military guarded all of our borders and checked everything coming in, then the odds of that happening would have been very low.
So I am torn. Part of me wants to see the Free World come together to end human suffering at the hands of dictators and other criminals. But part of me wants America to become an Isolationist country, with strong secure borders where nothing gets in unless we want it to. Where we take care of our own and let the rest of the world take care of themselves. Really, the rest of the world treats us like crap even after all the help and money we shell out (Not a new thing either, they have always done it). They don’t appreciate our help, but they love our money.
Perhaps the US would have been better off if we had stayed out of WWI and WWII. We had no business getting involved in European politics. Let them all sort out their own mess. Perhaps we should approach all world conflicts with that same attitude. It’s your mess, you sort it out. It’s not our problem. When Islam starts to take over Europe and they are crying for help, let them lie in the bed that they made. It’s not our problem.
I am torn between my dream of a free united world, where everyone enjoys basic human rights, or a strong America that takes care of itself first.
Do we help the world or help ourselves? Yes, helping the world is a more noble thing, and just helping ourselves is...well....selfish, but all we get are headaches when we try to help others. I am starting to think maybe we should just help ourselves. Put the military around our borders and take care of our own. Yes, I want America to be an Isolationist country. (My Conservative side)
But then I think of the children who have live under the terror of ruthless leader who deny them a future and basic human rights, and I am not so sure. (My Liberal side)
Was it worth it? For some- yes, for others- no. For the world? Time will tell.

- Is your boss picking on you at work, or something?
- The question - Is this situation worth $3 trillion and 4000 American lives?
- You mean he's got a job?
- He's extra cranky... The unemployment checks are about to run out.
- Not sure, actually.
- Still not answering the question...
- Not going to answer? (n/t)
- Yes it was worth it.
