There is no First Amendment in Germany.
Because of her Nazi past, certain right-wing political and racially insensitive statements are illegal in Germany. Even certain books (like Mein Kampf) were banned until very recently, and the display of Nazi symbols, like swastikas, is illegal.
I've always felt ugly thought cannot be made to disappear by simply refusing to admit its there. Like an ugly, festering wound, some philosophies cannot heal without exposure to clean, fresh air and light.
