specular vs diffuse reflection
IF the Moon had a shiny mirror-like surface, the sun light would reflect directly off it and shine on the "back" of the Earth. this wouldn't mean "less" energy, but the moon would look like a small dot of bright light - like a more-distant version of our Sun.
