That General George Armstrong Custer was a hero at the Little Big Horn and that he was an admirable soldier.
All of that has pretty much been repudiated including the fact that the massacres he led against tribes before his eventual demise gave the Indians ample justification for targeting him and that his ego lead to the boneheaded strategic blunders he made that ended up with his massacre along with his men.
We got this stylized version instead of the noble and unsuspecting Custer riding gallantly into the valley to his underserved fate. When I found out the truth as a teenage it began my long distrust of history and a true understanding of our country's need to gloss over the not so flattering facts.
