"It's sort of a religion. People are substituting environmentalism for religion: humans are bad people doing harm. People don't follow Christianity as much any more, so they need a new religion. So there's an almost religious belief that people feel we have to change the way we do things. And that's fine, if there were evidence this is true. If I believed carbon dioxide were doing what they say it is doing, I would join them."

I would say it's only "sort of a religion" because it lacks all the trappings of "normal" religions. So, in outward appearance only, it's not exactly like a religion.
It's mostly a belief held by people who don't go to churches- and going to churches is so 19th Century. And church buildings are mostly about a way to communicate to the flock- and besides there no shortages of governmental type building one can use.
You can't say they have bible- but if they did, how many of them bother to read it? Having a bible printed assumes there is enough people who would want to read it.
They have the ritual of buying carbon credits.
They can see numerous sermons of TV. And Gore might come for a revival.
But wait, I guess the Inconvenient Truth serves as a bible, but then again, it's not sacred to all believers.
For Sunday school we have the public schools.
They have a holy day and occasion "lights out" holy hour.
Actually once you bother to list them, they have quite a few of the trappings of normal religions.
"Global warming" is based on Pseudo science.
What other Pseudo science or Science has as much religious trapping as "global warming"?
Predictably a believer might say nothing is as important as "global warming" which of course is quite funny.
But I will agree nothing seems to have been made as seemingly as important.
But what about medicine/health care? Food production? Transportation? Education? Military?
You have car shows, boat shows, computer shows, gun shows, etc - people think they are important enough to show up.
Human diseases, massive crop failure, nuclear war, asteroid strikes, supervolcanos, exploding stars, or things we are not even certain about which has caused mass extinction in earth's history, are as "world shaking" as direst predictions regarding "global warming". And of course car accidents kill over 40,000 Americans per year for last few decades- no cult about this.
Maybe the religion has a lot to do with super computers making climate models which suppose foretell the future. Hmm, what other futures are being foretold by super computers?
Interesting, never thought much about that before. You know I was wondering what would be the next religion after "Global warming". Now, I think it's possible it will have something to do with super computers making some kind prediction about the future. Maybe, supercomputers will determine what kind life your potential baby will have. That could have various types of rituals as part of it.
