Noisy stars
Hi
One criterion for a radial velocity detection of a planet around a star is that it has a quiet photosphere - I really wonder how astronomers would extract an annual signal from all the centimetre scale noise in most stars. Will be a pretty impressive bit of noise management. Greg Laughlin's recent(ish) posts on Alpha Centauri B planets has a simulated residuals diagram from which a planet might be extracted - very noisy, but definitely there.
