re: Here's what I understand.

1) The US intelligence community is an incompetent bunch of boobs who think the Iranians have stopped nuclear weapons work in 2003.

This was an interesting conclusion, particularly after they had told us in about 2005 that Iran WAS working on nuclear weapons. Israel still thinks they are. There's going to be a congressional intelligence briefing later this month on that bombing of that mysterious facility in Syria. I'd love to be a fly on that wall.

(2) The Iranians do NOT have a long-range delivery system worth spit if they are making a 10,000 lb, 12KT Hiroshima-yield nuclear device. Their missiles wouldn't be able to deliver a 10,000Ib warhead much more than 200 miles...Delivery by aircraft?... Yea, right! ...It wouldn't make it across Iraqi airspace.

Nobody is seriously worried about Iran shooting a missile labeled "made in Iran" at Israel or any other target. And with modern Western air defenses, anybody trying a bomber attack would accomplish just as much by simply flying their plane into a mountain.

What people are worried about is a cargo container coming into Yemen/Somalia/Wherever with a nasty fingerprint-free surprise to be shipped to its target on some old truck. The circulation of even major arms around that side of the world is still amazing, even after we cleaned up most of the first Pakistan-originated nuclear weapons ring.

(3) They now have enough weapons-grade uranium for one device.
and are increasing production.

Iran is refining nuclear material hand over fist. The current remedies for this (negotiations, threats of sanctions, U.N. running the show, international approach, absolutely no military involved) are exactly as prescribed by every Enlightened foreign policy expert. They have been utterly ineffective.

The current policy on Iran and nuclear development is pretty much to stare fixedly ahead and pretend nothing is happening.
