Which isn't even an estimate, which is no where near a deposit, much less a reserve, neither probable nor proven. This report draws areas on a map that says, in essense, "here there might be oil." It states that there is a chance that the source rock (shale) got hot enough (thermal window) to release oil into the the trap rock (sandstone). The article did not say how deep the stratigraphy of interest was.
Now it takes exploration, drill holes, and lots of money invested before a drop is produced.
Don't get too excited. The full report isn't up on the site yet, and I only downloaded the fact sheet. Which states, by the way, "Therefore, there is significant geologic uncertainty in these estimates, which is reflected in the range of estimates for oil (table 1)."
I do not know enough about this area, but if folks are hanging their hats on this being a buried oil shale deposit that can actually produce a serious amount of oil....
....sigh...
Well, they can invest in it if they like. It's going to take big bucks to find out for sure.
Me, I have serious doubts. I await the full report.

"Hard Numbers" ? It's only an assesment.
