Black hole or collapsar?
With all due respect to John Wheeler, I wonder if black hole was the most
appropriate name for those objects? I wonder if collapsar might have been
a better choice? After all, it follows in the pattern of quasar and pulsar.
Black hole is descriptive, but collapsar just strikes me as even cooler. I
know Joe Haldeman used the term in The Forever War. I believe it is also
favored by the Russians, as black hole is not a very nice term in their
language, and who wants to have a group of embarassed Russian
astronomers walking around?
