I have been a big Titanic fan since I saw Raise the Titanic back in the late 70's.(I know it was a corney movie, but us kids thought it was cool) I remember when Bob Ballard discovered her in two pieces.
I wish we could do something like put a dome over the sections and pump it full of some kind of foam that would preserve the ship until some future generation can come up with something better.
A lot of stories played out in the ship’s final two hours. I wonder if future generations will look at the falling of the Twin Towers in the same way?
She was a beautiful ship. I wish they would have saved her sister, the Olympic, from being scrapped. At least we still have the Queen Mary.
And don’t forget about the other sister, the Britannic.
There was a nurse (If I remember correctly it was Violet Jessop sp?) Who was on the Olympic when it collided with the Hawk, tearing a hole in its side. Then she was on the Titanic. Later she was on the Britannic when it sunk from hitting a mine. Her life story might be an interesting book, but I don’t know where you could go to get detailed information about her.
What I wouldn’t give to be able to walk around the Titanic. To stand on the Grand Staircase, or the bridge. Or climb up into the crows nest. Or to see the great engines running down below. Or to stroll down the Promenade deck.
When Cameron’s movie came out, I watched it for the scenery. I loved getting to see parts of that great ship. I wish I could have visited the set. I keep hoping he’ll make a movie about the Lusitanian.
I love those old ocean liners. The funny thing is, I get sea sick and would probably be miserable sailing on one.
