"Pope Benedict XVI begins first U.S. tour."

"The pontiff was greeted by President Bush, first lady Laura Bush and their daughter Jenna, each of whom shook his hand. It was believed to be the first time an American president has greeted a world dignitary on arrival at Andrews."

There are a whole lot of people who would have been more appropriate had the pope given a damn. A lot of nuns, one helluva lot of Hispanics and other Roman Catholic lay people. The pope only legitimizes Bush's foreign policy with such a high-profile association.

My guess is that he really doesn't care much for the rabble but likes the attention of more prominent folks.

And "security". How many people care enough to want to waste the guy? That seems a stretch. He's anti-abortion, so the really "pro-life" ones wouldn't want to kill him.

It's all a puzzlement. Boggles the mind inside the head.
