It really looks like that
This beautiful photo might be a time exposure, but once you get out of Flag, say about 20 to 30 miles due south, it really looks like that naked eye.
The area bounded by Flag to the north, Stoneman Lake Road to the south, I-17 to the west, and Lake Mary Road to the east, is a vast dark sky wilderness.
Close to the center of that 550 square mile tract, is Mormon Mountain, reputed to be the original site selected for the Kitt Peak Observatory.
