Good Article

Nice warning about the implossibility of stopping a comet impact and the need for space infrastructure to handle the threat. Good plug for PANN-STARS and LSST also. Does confuse the risk levels of 1 km objects with 30 m objects at one point, but given the discussion of increasing risk estimates for smaller objects its somewhat understandable. However, for clarity it should have been made clear that one estimate was for continent to global scale disasters and the other was for much smaller areas. I do think the newer research justifies us doing more on the small asteroid front though and will be glad when survey designed scopes come on line. Congress needs to step up and give NASA the money to do the tracking job right. NASA is correctly pointing out that they can't do this and all the other things Congress has told them to do.

Nice of you to lead us to an article pointing out the lack of justification for the Moon station and it's wasteful approach to getting to Mars.

Mark
