Should a hot war start, N. Korea has thousands of heavy artillery pieces trained on Seoul. Each capable of firing several rounds a minute. The MLRS launchers would be able to lay waste to large swaths of area north of the DMZ where that artillery is concentrated within minutes of an attack. Precision munitions launched from aircraft would be too little too late in arriving to stop the bloodbath. Only an area saturation weapon could stop them within minutes.

The MLRS was also highly effective against massed formations in Gulf War I. It took out ammunition and fuel depots, airfields, and troop staging areas without any "innocents" being lost.
