re: What does "belief" have to do with it?

"In my life I have seen damn few major concepts that could not be distilled into language perceivable to the intelligent layman...I'm afraid verbal density is most often used to disguise an idea that's either invalid or unpalatable."

You've expressed this sentiment before, and it's hard to argue with it, but in my opinion and experience, oversimplification and taking out of context is the demagogue's favorite tool and the quickest giveaway of the bullshit artist. What snope.com calls "...the simplistic solution to complex problems..."

is a much more dangerous and commonly used tool of the propagandist; if for no other reason than it seems so simple and straightforward that simple and straightforward minds tend to prefer it. After all, there are so many more of them. (OOPs! There's that ER elitism again!)
