Be aware.

It is a new world. The small point you addressed and many other's is why quality of life is going down even for those with means.

When you relinquish control of manufacturing, and try to cheapen the expense for same, you create the formula for inferior goods with nasty chemicals, absolutely no safeguards and YOU the buyer as the "test" market.

So far I have noticed excessive volatiles emitted from packed giftware, computer parts, bedding!, children's toys, etc. I recently had to put together a large doll house, not an inexpensive one, and the Chinese hand painted panels emitted a unique smell which reminded me, exactly, of an auto painting place which I had lingered in decades ago briefly for an estimate. Not good. I let the fumes air out in the garage for weeks because I wouldn't trust a child playing with it new.

Basically the total domination of products labeled "made in China" is playing Russian roulette with the nation's health.

The free market WILL respond eventually to the problem. I know I do TRY to limit made in China purchases - but it is literally becoming IMPOSSIBLE to filter out more than 10-20 percent of one's purchases.

Quality of life is more than just income, or access to modern medicine. It is about exposure to volatiles in our homes, the quality of air we breathe, the amount and types of radiation we are exposed to, etcetera.

If that makes me sound like an environmentalist - dang right I AM an environmentalist - but one who knows that a large part of the problem is the government legislation that has simply pushed the manufacturers' factory pollution overseas or below the border and poisoned our homes with shoddy volatile wares that are no longer scrutinized because the factories are not HERE and subject US inspection and safety measures.

That's why I push for the idea of a low wage for new workers as the key to bring back factories and make business profitable and yet safer at the same time. Without such a lure to balance the exodus - the problem will only get MUCH worse.
