Yes, I have been doing a lot of wingnut bashing lately. But I am not opposed in principle to Conservatism. In fact, many of its positions are merely more extreme versions of my own. What I am opposed to is the toxic, virulent strain of Conservatism that has emerged, in a clear and traceable line, from Joe MCarthy to John Birch to Lee Atwater to Newt Gingrich to Karl Rove and which finally has flourished with the Tea Party and the reaction to Barack Obama. (You will note I left Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan off that list).
For some reason, Obama has brought out the worst in them. It can't be his politics, he's not really as far Left as many other Democrats. It must be something else...
