In addition to the news segments playing only George's "safe"
early comedy bits during their blrubs on his passing, NPR's longer
news tribute had the ultimate irony.

When they played George discussing his famous Seven Dirty Words
(out of 400,000 in the English language), when he actually started
to say them, all seven were bleeped out.

George would have "loved" that.

I saw him in concert twice, once in 1983 and just last year.
Like Lenny Bruce, his humor had become more of a political
statement than just observations jokes. No doubt George
figured he was heading on out so he better make his words
count and screw the laughs for laughs sake.

Give 'em hell in heaven, George - even though I know you
didn't buy into that stuff, thank God - and I hope they don't
get you on the beef jerky rap.
