Current and former military and intelligence officials said that the war in Iraq consistently diverted resources and high-level attention from the tribal areas. When American military and intelligence officials requested additional Predator drones to survey the tribal areas, they were told no drones were available because they had been sent to Iraq.
This is precisely the point I made before we recklessly went to war in Iraq. We have diverted essential and necessary resources from a fully justified conflict in Afghanistan to a wholly manufactured excuse for a war in Iraq. We also squandered our national integrity and credibility.
We are paying a terrible price for the Bush administration's incompetence.
