How to tell there's an election in the offing.
"Report: U.S. could step up Iraq pullout." I think I remember "peace is at hand" before one election.
But there's a kicker. "Times: Withdrawal would be partly due to need to fight Afghan insurgency."
Now it's been almost 7 years of fighting in Afghanistan, and the country is no closer to being "conquered", or the war "won" than when it started. In fact, that war and Iraq have destabilized the Middle East to the point that oil is threatened, and gas prices risen.
When would a rational person give up on Afghanistan as unconquerable and stop wasting so very many innocent lives?
