I have a lot of trouble finding old posts myself sometimes. Like Bowser, my most common error is "remembering" them as being in a different category than they actually were.

Obviously, there is some sort of secret alien base there, just like on Mt. Shasta, and the photo has been censored by the Evil Conspiracy. ;)

Nothing at all, in my opinion.

Lindy was just pointing out a clever way to possibly identify GM food, although defining GM in the first place is a bit tricky. Those people of a less than scientific bent who get all spooky when they hear the word "genetic" can then avoid Evil Tomatoes That Never Rot and other such boogiefruit.
Then they can go over to the organic unpasteurized food section to make their selections, and spend the next three days perched on the Porcelain Throne of Natural Foods.
The rest of us can just eat. My ancestors went for two million years eating bugs, roots, fish, plants, little wiggly things under rocks, and dead stinking carcasses that the lions and jackals left behind. I'd like to think my digestive system can cope with a little genetic modification.
Just cook that hamburger all the way through, guys.

'U.S. views Iran's nuclear program as serious threat'

WASHINGTON - When war ends in Iraq, the Bush administration will give ``extremely high priority'' to halting a secret nuclear-weapons program in neighboring Iran, a senior administration official said Monday.
John Bolton, the undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, joined national security adviser Condoleezza Rice in warning that the White House sees nuclear-weapons programs in Iran and North Korea as imminent threats.
``The estimate we have of how close the Iranians are to production of nuclear weapons grows closer each day,'' said Bolton, a leading hawk within the administration.
Both Bolton and Rice, in separate speeches to the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, suggested that the Bush administration views the toppling of Saddam Hussein in Iraq as an initial response to a series of threats. However, neither of them suggested that Washington is pondering military action elsewhere.

(&San Jose Mercury-News&(http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/news/world/5530886.htm))
Am I totally in left field to worry that it might be just a little indiscreet to put Iraq's neighbor, Iran, on notice that it's next?
Is it out of the question to worry that Iran might apply the Bush Doctrine of "preventative war"? And might, in fact, judge that it will never have a better chance than now, while US troops are occupied fighting Iraq? Later, after the war in Iraq is over, our troops will occupy a (relatively) secure position along almost the entire west flank of Iran. Might they notice and decide to join Iraq (in the spirit of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend") now, instead of waiting to be in an even worse strategic position later?
Am I in any way out of line to wonder "What the hell are they thinking?"
Enquiring minds want to know.

I think once Saddam's head is stuck on a pike for all to see, we're suddenly going to find that diplomacy is going to work a hell of a lot better for us in the future than it used to. Just my opinion.

Global Warming report may be a major coup for the left

Although the recently released &global warming report& (http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/publications/car/) is filled with cautious statements, caveats, and no real policy recommendations, the left is now going to use it to leap for Bush's throat like a rabid wolverine. I really don't think Bush understands the huge political plum that has been handed to the left.
Read Thomas Oliphant's &column& (http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/155/oped/Two_leaps_forward_on_global_warming+.shtml) to get an idea of what the opening salvos are going to look like. The glee he manifests at the prospect of wrecking Western industrial civilization--especially America--is obvious.
America, which carries the economy of most of the entire goddam planet on its straining shoulders, will be an "outlaw."
Oliphant grouses that the large number of nations already signed up to the Kyoto Treaty account for only a small amount of the total emissions. The reason for this, of course, is that most of those nations are third-world, agricultural armpits where the idea of a productive day is having the ox drop enough dung for the evening cooking fire. Emissions are a sign that advanced technological industry is present. Believe me, life would be one hell of a lot harder with no industry and no emissions than the other way around.
Now that this report, regardless of what it actually says, can be used as "solid proof" of the conservatives signing on to human activity as the cause of global warming, the left, which pretty much runs the environmental movement now, can use it for ammunition in their goal of control of ALL human activity. Any further questions on the real causes of environmental change will now be swept aside.
Look for massive assaults in the next few months on all quarters: killing SUVs, hard restrictions on industries (American industries only, of course), and pretty much every favorite cause of the radical environmentalists. And of course, look for assaults on the Evil Republicans, who to the last man really want their children to eat, breath, and drink poisons.

BULLETIN--This just in!
&Bush dismisses report!& (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A58119-2002Jun4.html) What may be happening is that although the report was put out on his watch, it is not something he signed up to. Now this is getting interesting! Awaiting further developments. One way or another, this is going to get bloody.

U.S.: 'Solid basis' for Iraq charges

&Saddam urges Iraqis to help inspectors disprove U.S. claims.& (http://www.msnbc.com/news/842500.asp?0cv=CB10)
Now for you kiddies, this is what propaganda looks like. It's called preparing your people for war.
As I recall, first GWB had proof, the CIA said he didn't, then Blair was issuing his
'White Paper', and now GWB has more proof. I'm certain in the last few months he?s had time to whip the CIA into shape, promise money to the political guys who are 'good', hold off on pay raises for anyone without a lip-lock on his butt.

This is how its going to go down, IMO:
--Assume Bush and the U.S. authorities have had solid proof of Iraq's WMD program since before they even went to the U.N. in the first place. Probably proof of their support of terrorists as well. Publicizing it prematurely with no one on the ground in Iraq would obviously cause the evidence to vanish instantly.
--Saddam will issue his document this weekend with whatever bullshit he chooses to fill it with. None of it will point to anything except possible decoys. Certainly not to any of the real programs that we know about.
--Here's where the boom is lowered. Several options are available to the U.S. at this point. In one such, the U.S. informs trusted members of the inspection team as to the real locations. They buzz out there, too quickly for the surprised Iraqis to get ready, and uncover the Real Goodies in front of everyone. Saddam is caught in a major violation, and the U.N. has no choice but to acknowledge it. Boom.
There are other ways this could work, but this probably covers the basics.

The REAL weapons inspectors?

I predicted earlier that after Saddam dropped his thirty-pound load of written camel crap on the U.N. inspectors, that the United States' next move might be to turn around and show everyone where the REAL weapons sites are.
DEBKAfile has an interesting &article& (http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=217) that says this is the plan. Yeah, it's DEBKAfile, but wouldn't it be cool if it were true?
