You said way back it was about cheap oil over and over. I told you BS, oil companies thrive on expensive oil. Have you finally realized your error with record oil prices and record profits for big oil?
It's only about oil in the sense we can't afford to let that area implode like Sudan or Somalia. We could have left after toppling Saddam and let the region implode. Now I would be against that based on the "you break it you fix it principle", but I believe there are many who support finishing the war right more on the basis of our self interest than the Iraqi's.
That doesn't change the fact that most people including most Democrats believed Saddam had a hidden wmd program before Bush took office. 911 changed how people felt about allowing that to continue far more than any subjective presentation of evidence Bush made. The support for doing something about Iraq skyrocketed very early in the process long before Colin Powell's UN speech or the events frequently used to claim Bush lied us into a war. We were mislead far more by Saddam's refusal to cooperate with inspections than anything Bush said.
The war started over wmd and while it continues in part to prevent terrorists from taking over a crucial supply of oil it is also about doing the right thing in rebuilding a country we partialy destroyed just like we did after WW2. It is entirely inconsistent to claim the war was about oil and not wmd while claiming we were lead into the war by lies about wmd unless you are claiming wmd was just a trumped up cover story. 10 years of history clearly indicate otherwise.
It's sad that when even undeducated Iraqi's have come to realize that terrrorists are just egomanical killers who want to oppress Iraqis far more than our occupation ever did and turned on them by joining our side that many Americans still wish to portray us as the bad guys. Fortunately this is no longer aiding and abetting the enemy, because most Iragi's have learned the hard way who the real bad guys are every time they take over a town.

Mark
