GAS Pricing/marketing DONE to Accustom Motorist?

Seems to me that the gas companies ramp the prices of Petroleum products up to a high level, they gradually reduce it in price but not back to pre-inflationary levels, like gas at 2.12 cents a gallon shoots to $4.25 gal, then recedes back to 3.69 a gal...slowly It's like well, you could afford gas now it's at 3.69, but heavens, I dread it going to over 4 bucks again so I'll spend spend, spend! Like a major marketing ploy to think the motorist is spending on the cheap.
