"Rice: Pakistan should up fight against Taliban."

"In Australia, U.S. secretary says more must be done on Afghan border."

One of the enduring mysteries of US foreign policy lately is that the US expects all other nations to have the best interests of the US at heart. "If you aren't with us, you're against us." And the US then claims that the US agenda is also best for the world. And many, many people seem to believe it.

In reality, nations, like people, have varying agendas, all of the valid for that nation. And they may not mesh with the US's, especially as the US identifies it's interests as being those of huge multi-national corporations. A country may nationalize it's oil, using the profits for the benefits of it's own citizenry. The oil is still available on the open market, the US can buy it, but by cutting out the multi-national middle-man that country will find itself on the USs bad list. (Saudi Arabi was an exception.)

Anyway, Rice expecting Pakistan to fight and die against the Taliban is an example. Just because the US wants it to.

Bad reasoning.
