re: "A German dominated Europe couldn't be worse"
Are you simply (and conveniently) forgetting the systematic mass murder of millions of people, or is it just not something with which you concern yourself?
The mass murder happened regardless. It was simply transferred eastward. Half of Europe was enslaved for decades and tens of millions were killed by the USSR, yet we don't think twice about dealing with it's successor states. No one in Russia was ever put on trial for the gulags (far more died in them than in the German camps) and we don't seem to have a problem with that. How many more died when Communism spread its grasp into China, Korea, and SE Asia? Something to think about as you watch the Beijing Olympics on your "made in China" television.
IMO, the world (and the Western World in particular) would be a better place today had Gudarian taken the Channel ports and cut off any chance of escape for the BEF. Then a cross channel invasion would've taken Britain out of the war for good. That would've allowed Germany to turn its full might against the USSR and take them out by the end of 1941. The cities of Europe would've been spared mass bombings and all of those historical treasures wouldn't have been destroyed.
In any case, Europe wouldn't be governed by the spineless, self loathing worms that control it today. That's a given.
