I'm afraid many at ESA wouldn't agree !

The US is leading the world in the manned space program and whatever the US decides has impacts on the other nations that follow the US.

Columbus is just starting to work at the moment the US decides to abandon the program.....

Of course, it depends on what we spend for space. But spending requires political decisions too.
