No ticket to ride
The "hitching a ride" paradigm confounds me. You don't get a ride. You still need to do the full Delta V just to get to the object.
Why not do a similar Delta V and get to exactly where you want to go, e.g. a few hundred AU out where the sun acts as a gravitational lens and you could look 'back' towards an object of interest such as the galactic center or a promising extrasolar planet in detail whatever?
