I personally don’t think Obama deserves to be president. He hasn’t earned it yet. He’s far too inexperienced. That said, he could still end up being a good president. He will make some mistakes during his learning curve, but hopefully they won’t be too detrimental to the nation. I like a lot of his ideas but I’m worried about him defending the nation.
I actually like McCain and while he is clearly a flawed individual on a number of levels, he is absolutely qualified to be president and it’s difficult to think of someone who has earned it more given his war record. I dislike a lot of his ideas but I worry much less about him than Obama.
But I will be voting for Obama this November for one big reason: The sins of our forefathers. Call it white guilt. Call it putting a national shame forever behind us. This is a nation that once enslaved and treated as property human beings who happen to be black. This is a nation that the highest court in the land once said a black man’s vote is worth 3/5 of a white man’s vote. This is a nation that half a century ago still segregated most aspects of society. We’ve come so far. And now we stand at the gate that will truly open the American dream to every single citizen. I would feel ashamed the rest of my life if a black man was finally elected president (and all that that would mean symbolically and culturally to our nation) and I had voted against him.
I hope Obama is up for the job.
The sins of our forefathers
