The 2 engines differ greatly in thrust and airframe size & weight support. It's not like the private money RRL has infinite funds. If Carmac's engine should somehow fail, XCOR is there to pick up the slack. They have not forbidden XCOR to continue competing. Kudos to my man Carmac!
