Gustav and the Divine Irony
Liberal Snippets and a Series of Unfortunate Events
The following seemingly unrelated events have convinced me there is a God with a sense of Irony.
1) On July 30th Focus on the Family put out a video calling for members to pray for rain during Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention:
In the video, Shepard called for Christians to pray for "abundant, torrential" rains during the Democratic nominee's acceptance speech in order to disrupt it. He had asked Christians to pray for rain that would create flash flood warnings and "swamp the intersections."
In the video, Shepard said he hoped the rain would start "two minutes before the acceptance speech begins."
"I'm still pro life, and I'm still in favor of marriage as being between one man and one woman," Shepard said in his video. "And I would like the next president who will select justices for the next Supreme Court to agree."

2) It did not rain, despite the fact that they gave God plenty of lead time, proving that one of the following must be true:
a) There is no God
b) Prayer is useless, or
c) God thinks Conservative Christians are dicks and is voting for Obama
(No comment from Focus on the Family as to which of these options they believe is the case)
3) Republicans hold their convention 3 years after Hurricane Katrina left devastation in the gulf coast:
September 1st, 2005:
Meanwhile, conditions at the Superdome, as well as the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, continued to deteriorate. Food and potable water were unavailable, anarchy was flaring up, with reports of rescuers coming under fire from people seeking to hijack supplies or transportation, and few buses were arriving to evacuate the survivors. About 5,000 refugees made it by bus to Reliant Astrodome, yet there were only about 2,000 cots available.[37] Secretary Chertoff is criticized by NPR's Robert Siegel during an interview on All Things Considered, as he had no knowledge of the approximately 2,000 survivors at the Convention Center with no food or water. He said, "I have not heard a report of thousands of people in the Convention Center who don't have food and water."[38] FEMA Director Brown said that FEMA only became aware of crisis at the Convention Center on this date, yet later claims to have known about it 24 hours earlier.[39]

The superdome was the site of the Republican National convention in 1988.
4) Hurricane Gustav prompts the evacuation of the gulf coast in the run-up to the 2008 Republican convention... Among those evacuated are thousands of people STILL LIVING IN UNSAFE FEMA TRAILERS THREE YEARS AFTER KATRINA!
"Today, on that third anniversary, we've got to be thinking about the future," Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said. "As we pray for the best, we're going to prepare for the worst,"
Barbour announced Friday that Hurricane Katrina victims living in government-issued trailers or mobile homes along his state's coast will begin evacuating this weekend to prepare for the Gustav's possible arrival.
The process will begin Saturday, with notices going out to people living in Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers or mobile homes, as well as people living in more permanent structures known as "Mississippi cottages," he said.
The evacuation will begin in Harrison and Hancock counties on Sunday morning, Barbour said. Evacuation in Jackson County will begin Monday.
About 4,300 families live in FEMA trailers or mobile homes, and 2,800 live in Mississippi cottages, the governor's office said. He said he would urge people living in privately owned mobile homes to evacuate as well.

5) Hurricane Gustav speeds up and makes landfall on the opening day of the 2008 Republican National Convention.
6) Hurricane hannah is expected to make landfall in the US thursday or friday- ensuring that the Republican Convention is bracketed by reminders of dismal republican failure.
