re: A trend among amateur astronomers

Yes, focusing with the camera is the hardest task when trying to capture a image.
I bought a monitor with a 4” screen to help with the focusing with my Coolpix when attached to the scope and it helped but wasn’t the answer to true infinity focus.

I haven’t tried to image anything since the Holmes outburst or observing with a telescope for that matter, but have found and flagged some focusing software that can be used with a laptop. I think this is the way to go if you want sharp images that are hard to view with your DSLR or CD camera. I haven’t done any research on them yet to determine which one is the best or easiest to use so I can’t recommend them, but one I found is free if you have the ambition to try it.

DSLRFOCUS

Hocus Focus

I guess the bottom line is, how much trouble is it worth to you? Imaging that is!
